Siegel middle school cross country11/30/2023 It is a Gothic tale of deception and horror set in the time of the Civil War, with an underlying tone of eroticism and sexual tension running throughout. Interesting notes: Eastwood and Siegel had to battle with Universal Pictures to keep the original ending, and they won out and, the film was billed as a standard Eastwood western, which it certainly is not. I only had an old battered VHS tape of it until I recently purchased the widescreen DVD, which also includes the hilarious, awful trailer that makes the film come across as a "Peyton Place" soap opera, and conveys none of the creepiness of the film. I first saw this movie in one of my college film classes in the mid-1970's, and was immediately taken with it. An alternate title considered for the film was "Pussy-Footing Down At The Old Plantation", which thankfully was not used, otherwise I am sure raunchy jokes about the fact that it takes place at a girls' school would be difficult to avoid. Directed by Don Siegel, with whom Eastwood collaborated on several films, it was made a year before Eastwood's directorial debut with "Play Misty For Me". Grep wc11/30/2023 As the name suggests it will count the lines, words or byte count from any file. Wc is a utility whose name stands for “word count”. In case you are editing or playing with text files on a terminal then these tools will surely make your life easy.įor this article let’s have a look at wc, sort, tr, and sed commands. We all know that using a terminal is more efficient to use the system. Let’s have a look at some command line utilities which really come in handy when you’re the guy that likes to stick with the terminal rather than using a GUI. It can also both ignore case and count the number of lines that match your request.Linux distributions are great to use and they have some tricks under their sleeves which users may not be aware of. In fact, it can look for multiple strings in several different ways. The grep command can do a lot more than find each instance of a single string in a text file. The commands below generate the same results as the previous two commands without piping the output to the wc command: $ grep -c 'it' recording_commands Instead of using the wc command to count the lines in the grep output, you can use the grep command itself. $ grep -i 'it' recording_commands | wc -lĪnd here's a little surprise. In the examples below, the word "it" is found 10 times in the first case and 11 times when the -i option is used. To find strings in text files regardless of whether the letters are in uppercase or lowercase, use the grep command's -i (ignore case) option. The command below does not find the string. Note that the grep -e command will allow you to search for strings that begin with a hyphen. $ grep -w 'fly\|sessio' recording_commands In other words, type "script" and each command that Their history command numbers during a single login session. When you first open a session on the command line, the oldest commands in $ grep -w 'fly\|session' recording_commands In the examples below, the line containing the word "session" is only included when the full word is used in the command. The command below fails to find the word "xray" because the "y" is omitted and the -w option is used. If you only want to find exact matches for your strings, use a command like the one below that will only display strings when they are included in the file as full words – not substrings. $ grep -e ^xr -e tape -e hope -e boat 4letters In this case, each string is included following its own -e. The same search can be performed using grep's -e option. The command will display any lines in the file that contain the word "xray", the word "tape" or both. In the command below, the '|' character serves as an "or" function. There are a number of ways to search for a group of strings in a single command. The wording suggests there was more to the story than anyone wanted to admit. This "find string in file" command will show all the lines in the file that contain the string, even when that string is only part of a longer one. The simplest grep command looks like the one shown below. This post shows how to use grep in all these ways. It can also ignore case when needed, and it can count the lines in the resulting output for you. It can be used to search through these files for multiple strings or regular expressions at the same time. The grep command makes it easy to find strings in text files on Linux systems, but that's just a start. Too much energy drinks symptoms11/30/2023 Amplified negative health effects in adolescents.Ī typical energy drink may contain the following: carbonated water, around 40 grams of sugar (from sucrose and/or glucose), 160 mg or more of caffeine, artificial sweetener, and herbs/substances associated with mental alertness and performance but that lack scientific evidence with controlled trials (taurine, panax ginseng root extract, L-carnitine, L-tartarate, guarana seed extract, B vitamins). These include increased stress, aggressive behaviors like fighting, alcohol/cigarette abuse, increased blood pressure, increased risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes, poor sleep quality, and stomach irritation. While it is true that some controlled trials have shown temporary improved alertness and reversal of fatigue after taking energy drinks, as well as enhanced physical performance in young athletes, the majority of studies show an association with negative health effects. An energy drink may be used by adolescents or college students cramming for exams through the night, or by a young athlete before an important game. Although statements on the websites of energy drinks warn that these beverages may not be suitable for children, youth are among their largest consumers. Sipping a beverage that offers quick energy may appeal to people who feel fatigued or who believe the caffeine can provide an edge when exercising or playing competitive sports. Research has found that consuming high-sugar drinks of any kind can lead to weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and gout.īecause of the amount of sugar and stimulant ingredients, there is concern that these beverages may not be helpful, and even worse, harmful to adolescents and people with certain health conditions. A nutritional comparison shows that a 12-ounce cola drink contains about 39 grams of sugar, 41 grams of sugar in an energy drink. Īfter water, sugar is the main ingredient in energy drinks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that in 2007, 1,145 adolescents ages 12 to 17 went to the emergency room for an energy drink-related emergency. Most concerning is a lack of regulation about the safety of these drinks, as well as aggressive marketing tactics geared toward adolescents. Other substances purported to increase energy may be added, like B vitamins and herbs such as ginseng and guarana. Many energy drinks pack about 200 mg of caffeine, the amount in two cups of brewed coffee. They are marketed to increase alertness and energy levels, containing significant amounts of caffeine and as much or more sugar as in soda. Though sometimes confused with sports beverages, energy drinks are a different product entirely. Plain water is the best hydrating beverage for most people, but sports and energy drinks are advertised to appeal to those who exercise or need a boost of energy to get through the day. Omnifocus 2 ipad pro11/30/2023 You can learn more at the OmniGroup website and from their OmniFocus 2 for iPad iBook.Throughout this manual you’ll find information to help you get the most out of an app designed from the ground up with your productivity in mind. I bought the app as soon as it appeared in the App Store earlier today. I have personal knowledge of exactly how hard the team at The Omni Group worked on this new version and I’m loving it. Working through my admittedly complicated life with this application happens faster now and, frankly, the redesign makes the process more delightful. In that regard, OmniFocus 2 for the iPad absolutely delivers. Building on the shoulders of its predecessor, this version doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel, but instead make the wheel spin a lot faster and more efficiently. It gave me the power to manage my tasks on my iPad in a way that I didn’t think was possible. The first version of OmniFocus for the iPad was truly revolutionary. In a sense, this new feature liberates OmniFocus from the Mac and I think people who want to try and get by with just an iOS installation, have a real fighting chance now where they simply did not before. Perspectives you create on the iPad will sync over to your Mac and iPhone without difficulty. As seen in the attached screenshot, you have a lot of parameters you can set in his custom perspectives ranging from a custom icon to searching for particular text. With the upgraded pro version you can now edit perspectives on your iPad to your heart’s content. (They would previously synchronize to an iPad but you could not edit them on an iPad.) Previously, you can only set of those custom perspectives on a Mac. User-defined perspectives ( like mine) allow you to make this task system work for you, no matter how your brain is wired. Perspectives give OmniFocus the power to become whatever you need it to become. I’ve always written back that the big stumbling block is perspectives. One of the most common questions I received about OmniFocus is from users that don’t have a portable Mac and want the ability to get by with OmniFocus just on the iPad and iPhone. Chief among those is the ability to edit perspectives. The pro version unlocks several new features not seen and prior versions of OmniFocus on the iPad. I hope Apple allows this to continue and other application developers follow suit. This is about as close to upgrade pricing as I’ve ever seen on iOS. If you have the prior version of OmniFocus for iPad installed on your iPad, the new version will sense that and give you the pro upgrade for free. The application is priced with an entry-level price of $29.99 and an in-app purchase of $19.99 for the pro version. With the amount of time I spent in OmniFocus, I find that it does a pretty good job of keeping my task list up-to-date in The background and allowing me to spend even less time pushing the synchronize button when I want to be getting my tasks done. This is all subject to the magic sauce of iOS to determine which applications are worthy of getting these background processes. The new version of OmniFocus for the iPad adds background syncing, which allows the application to update its data in the background. Nevertheless, I know the OmniGroup is always working on finding ways to speed it up, including building their own data storage and synchronization mechanism with OmniPresence. OmniFocus has got so adept at synchronizing this data that I find myself taking it for granted. My database has a lot of projects and tasks in it and I’m jumping between devices all day long. One feature that doesn’t get much attention is the synchronization engine. Neither of these options was very palatable and quite often I ended up doing this on the Mac instead. With the prior version I then had to go drill down in the Projects perspective and adjust the project defer date there or tediously move the start date on every associated task. Indeed, I may conclude that I don’t have any time to deal with it until a week from next Tuesday. The way I organize my task projects, sometimes I will hit one that has multiple associated tasks on a day when I have no time to deal with it. One problem I’ve always had with the iPad and iPhone versions of OmniFocus is the ability to easily move the defer date of a project. There’s also the ability to enable TextExpander snippets which can be really handy when creating new tasks and OmniFocus. The Settings include options for due dates, notifications, and the synchronization methodology. Synchronize button forces the synchronization with your syncing mechanism of choice, which can include a private server or OmniFocus`s own OmniPresence service. Pulling down on this perspective sidebar, exposes the synchronization and settings buttons. Wasted book food11/30/2023 The purpose of this paper was to provide a broad picture of FLW generation and prevention. Another review was conducted by Thyberg and Tonjes about the drivers of FLW and their implications for sustainable policy development. Their main finding was the limitations of research, such as lack of a consistent definition for FLW, absence of information for food loss (FL) in the transportation stage, and undeveloped methodologies of studies of FLW prevention. Schneider reviewed literature on FLW prevention at the global level. They found that, in the Arab world, there is insufficient concern, initiatives, and research related with FLW or its reduction. Abiad and Meho conducted a systematic review of FLW research in the Arab world. examined the global efforts and policy implications of reducing FLW. Many studies have examined the main drivers of FLW at stages of the food supply chain (FSC) or as a whole, and systematic reviews of these studies have also been conducted. FLW is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates studies from diverse fields ranging from agricultural and environmental studies to logistics and business. įLW has more recently become a substantial issue, as confirmed by the fact that the number of research publications has dramatically increased since the late 2000s. Such changes could lead to improved access to nutritious foods for vulnerable households. Several studies also showed that FLW reduction initiatives in developed countries could decrease food prices in developing countries, boost efficiency in their supply chain, and conserve resources that might be used to feed the hungry. According to Rutten, FLW represents dissipated investment in the agricultural sector and generates significant inefficiencies in the input aspects, such as land, labor, water, fertilizers, and energy. FW decomposes faster than other landfilled materials, with a higher methane yield and without any contribution to biogenic sequestration in that area. When FW is thrown into landfills, a substantial portion of FW is converted into greenhouse gas (GHG) and methane, which has a global warming potential 25 times higher than carbon dioxide. FLW also has serious environmental, economic, poverty, and natural resource impacts. įLW is a critical concern in terms of nutritional insecurity, as it decreases the availability of food for human consumption. The amount of Food Waste (FW) in industrialized countries, at approximately 222 million tons, is almost equal to the total net production in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) counties (230 million tons). A large portion of the food waste occurs after preparation, cooking, or serving, as well as from not consuming before the expiration date as a result of over-shopping, which might be associated with poor planning and bulk purchasing. Of this, 40% of FLW in developed countries occurs in the consumption stage, which is driven mostly by consumer behavior, values, and attitudes. The developed countries, including European, North American, and Oceanian countries, and the industrialized nations of Japan, South Korea, and China produce 56% of the world FLW. This is caused by poor practices, technical and technological limitations, labor and financial restrictions, and lack of proper infrastructure for transportation and storage. In less-developed countries, FLW occurs mainly in the post-harvest and processing stage, which accounts for approximately 44% of global FLW. The amount of FLW varies between countries, being influenced by level of income, urbanization, and economic growth. The amount of FLW is sufficient to alleviate one-eighth of the world’s population from undernourishment and address the global challenge to satisfy the increased food demand, which could reach about 150–170% of current demand by 2050. The monetary value of this amount of FLW is estimated at about USD $936 billion, regardless of the social and environmental costs of the wastage that are paid by society as a whole. Approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption (1.3 billion tons of edible food) is lost and wasted across the entire supply chain every year. Food loss and waste (FLW) is recognized as a serious threat to food security, the economy, and the environment.
